I spent a considerable amount of time in my younger years desparately trying to fit the mold, so to speak. I can remember telling my mom that I wouldn't/couldn't wear certain things because it was NOT the style. The amazing thing about that is that I was never really a follower. I didn't ever really feel the need to do what others did. I do however recall not wanting to be the subject of everyone else's jeering. So I made sure I did things my own way, but in a way that no one would be able to make fun of. Now is a bit of a different story though! I am very aware that people really want to express themselves and are very much bound by social norms, preferences and ambient taste. It is amazing how we are programmed to make fun of those few who are liberated from the social constraints of dressing or behaving in the popular way. I say, why not make it personal? Why not make it your own. I was looking at Jani's sari and how it totally shows who she is. (the drummer guy is clearly me :) ) I would only hope we can come to a place where people can be comfortable with their own styles and preferences. I am gonna start with me! I don't know if I am gonna post selfies and all of that.... but I will definitely post images and celebrate diversity in style. Make it your own! Be happy!
Peace and Love :)
